The Build Process
Designing and building Wild Swimscape
At Wild Swimscapes, our wild swim pool design and construction process is carefully planned to ensure a seamless, sustainable, and rewarding experience. Whether you have a vision in mind or need expert guidance, we work closely with you to create a natural swimming pool that blends beautifully with the South West landscape. Here’s how we bring your dream to life:
1. Initial consultation & site assessment

Our journey begins with a detailed consultation to understand your needs, aesthetic preferences, and the unique features of your landscape. We assess your site, taking into account the topography, soil type, water source, and surrounding ecosystem to ensure the best possible design for a low-maintenance, wildlife-friendly swim pool.
2. Design & planning

Once we understand your vision, we create a tailored design that harmonises with your garden’s natural contours. Our designs incorporate biofiltration systems, native planting, and sustainable materials to ensure crystal-clear water without chemicals. We also factor in any additional elements you may want, such as stone retaining walls, wooden structures, or a sauna.
3. Excavation & groundworks

With plans finalised, we begin excavation, carefully shaping the swim zone, regeneration area, and filtration zones. For sloped sites, we construct stone walls or retaining banks to provide stability. Throughout this stage, we take great care to minimise environmental impact and preserve existing natural features.
4. Waterproofing & biofiltration setup

To ensure a long-lasting, low-maintenance swim pool, we use either a clay-based liner, natural compacted materials, or a high-quality eco-membrane. Our biofiltration system is then installed, utilising gravel beds and aquatic plants to naturally filter and purify the water, keeping it clear without chemicals.
5. Landscaping & native planting

We enhance the surroundings with native plants, wildflowers, and aquatic vegetation, creating a habitat that supports biodiversity. This step is crucial in making your pool feel like a natural extension of the landscape, attracting wildlife while maintaining water clarity.
6. Water filling & balancing

Once the construction is complete, we gradually fill the pool, allowing the filtration system to activate. At this stage, we monitor the water chemistry and ecological balance, ensuring everything functions as intended before you take your first swim.
7. Finishing touches & additional features

If your project includes decking, a pergola, sauna, or additional landscaping, we integrate these finishing touches at this stage. Every detail is designed to enhance your experience while maintaining a wild, organic aesthetic.
8. Client briefing & maintenance guidance

Before we hand over your new natural swimming pool, we provide a detailed briefing on maintenance and seasonal care. While our pools are designed for low-maintenance operation, we offer optional ongoing maintenance services to keep your swim pond in peak condition for years to come.
By the end of this process, you’ll have a beautiful, eco-friendly wild swim pool that requires minimal upkeep while offering endless enjoyment. If you’re considering a wild swim pool design in the South West, contact us today to start your journey.
